Previously on Dark Hole

Now: Episode 8

Flashback to when Lee Soo Hyun is fresh from the crime scene. She is being questioned and Hwa Sun is standing just a few feet while another officer is at the tail end of it. When this concludes, they walk out in the hallway. Other detective guy fucks off while Hwa Sun and Lee Soo Hyun have a little heart to heart. This eventually morphs into her officially opening her home to the girl.

Back to the hell hole timeline where Hwa Sun is getting those flashbacks of her late husband and also Do Yoon. They both left such a dent on her soul (for the better) than this makes her snap out of the dark side. They both tossel and turn a bit in which leads them both to fall off the roof.

Oof I guess not because Hwa Sun jolts up from a slumber. She wakes up in a small room in front of Choi and Tae Han. She proceeds to asks just what the fuck did happen? Hmm let's go back a little, shall we then?

Mini flashback!

Okay so when Tae Han went running to check out the loud metal clanking he heads into the stairway. Which was the door to the roof. Mystery solved. Hwa Sun reaches the roof and has that scuffle with Soo Hyun and yes, they actually fall off the roof for reals! He reaches the roof just when the action was coming to a close. HOWEVER! Hwa Sun is grasping the ledge with one hand and the other is holding on to the ever so cackling Soo Hyun. Sucks to know but yeah she is holding on to her fucked up hand, the one she had to dislocate to escape the handcuffs so it buckles underweight, slipping out of grip. Thus, falling to her death. Tae Han manages to reach her just in time before she looses her grip on the wall she is clutching for dear life. While he is trying to pull her up, SHE FAINTS!

Bruh.

All 3 are in that small room now. Hwa Sun looks out the window to see Soo Hyun's lifeless body on the ground and dang. She walks back out where Tae Han asks if she is okay. Since all their interactions were so rapid fire about surviving and shit, Hwa Sun realizes: hey we're at episode 8 and I just realized that I never got you name, hunky dood.

"Yoo Tae Han."

"Lee Hwa Sun."

Awesome, so they are have officially met. Cool beans.

Ji Hye and Officer Jo are in each other's company and gazing at their adorable newborn. Doctor J enters to check up on all of them. They tell her that they have named the baby Him Chan. After everything is fine and dandy she takes her leave. Jo asks if she has seen Sergeant Park...ehhh might wanna check ya boi.

Yeah. He is still stuck and bound. His mouth tape falls so he angrily talks to the 2 goons that are guarding him. He has to go potty! Yeah, prisoners gotta go when nature calls, amirite? While one of them is untying, Park manages with all his might to headbutt one dude unconscious. And then the other doofus too. Now he is freeeeee.

Nice timing because the very second he steps out of the room he runs into none other than Officer Hyun Ho who literally has no idea what kind of monkey circus fuck just happened. After he is caught up to speed on the fuckery that Sunnyeo has brought upon them, Park has an idea that if they can reach their police car, they could attempt to communicate their SOS signal to other police districts.

Just out of sight is that christian lady that was hiding in a room and she overheard everything.

Continuing the wacky psycho ritual the christian lady has confirmed to turn dark side and wants to join said wacky black circle cult. She goes up to Sunnyeo and tries to make a bargain that if she tells them she knows, can she one of the "chosen ones"?

OMGGGGGG.

Sergeant Park and Hyun Ho manage to exit the hospital and make their way to their patrol car. To their shock, the communication device is fucking gone.

"Looking for dis?"

Shit. Christian lady sold them out! Sunnyeo and the rest of her followers corner them. Now they are held at gun point. Sunnyeo somewhat thanks christian lady and dubs her a chosen one. Great.

Now that she is totes flipped sides, Sunneyo leads her one on one to a previous sectioned area of the hospital where she tells her to go past the doors and see what awaits her when she meets Him. Giddy as hell, the second she gets further enough away, the door gets closed and locked behind her for good.

The moment has always been waiting for. She tells her that this is what she gets for slapping her around in that flashback when she slapped and embarrassed her in front of a lot of people after her foot got cut and "lost her spiritual powers".  Real nuclear revenge energy here, huh?

The more she angrily bangs against the door, she very quickly notices that it is indeed a grave mistake and a barage of mutants come storming out from the door across the roof and they attack her to death. Gnarly.

Tae Han decides to split yet again from Hwa Sun, saying he is going to scan the area and make sure it is safe for the rest of the survivors. Hwa Sun bumps into Choi with a sleeping Do Yoon on his back. She asks why they didn't head to the hospital, Choi says he was just worried about her and all. In the end they are just going camp out for the night there and make their way to the hospital in the morning. Makes sense.

She is all alone again and it seems that her winces in pain in the brain come back. These seem to be coming more and more frequent, eh?

As Tae Han is working his way around the Mart, he gets ambushed by a mutant which knocks his ax to the ground in which the mutant picks up and using it against him! SHIT THAT SUCKS. While he is all dodging his attacks. He is able to get his ax back only to immediately drop it again in this very tense struggle.

Hwa Sun is Tae Han's knight in shining armor as she is the one picks up the ax to deal the fatal blow.

She makes the blood curdling confession that while she got that brain wince, she was actually able to see him through the eyes of the mutant. WTF kind of super power is dis?! Weird, indeed. It's gonna come in handy one day I tell ya what.

At the hospital, Sunnyeo is making some new arrangements at the altar which looks even more so wacktastical as ever. The black orb in the void seems pleased. She stops in her tracks when she receives new information that they should prepare for a new visitor whom will make an appearance really soon. Looks like damn near everyone at this point is apart of her following, maybe a few stragglers but not much is known at this point.

Metal clanking in the background so a few go to investigate. And it just so happens to be this yet to be named security desk guy. You know, the one who wheeled that poor soul to to be the first sacrifice?

The 2 guys who dun goofed watching over Sergeant Park are the ones to approach him. He is taking various chairs and making a barricade. The second he looks back up, he sees the 1st sacrifice guy at the door staring right back at him. The 2 guys don't see a thing so this young dude is hallucination or something. 

Sunnyeo crosses their path from a far distance to witness it and makes a smirk. Like she knew it was coming.

Meanwhile, the survivors at the Mart are hanging out. Shooting the shit as the cool kids say. Tae Han tells Hwa Sun to get some rest and he takes off. He does have quite the habit of not wanting to stay in one place, eh? 

So she strolls on over to sit next to Choi whom is sitting by himself. She figures out that another reason he brought the group there is so he can look for Dong Rim. He admits that he felt guilt for not keeping an eye on her when they all got off the bus. She is so sweet and tells him to not beat himself up over it and she is a tough girl. She'll be fine. She has faith and so should he.

Since everyone is in, well, a supermarket, the survivors split in their own social groups and go free ranging around the store. Do Yoon and Chang from some candy and chips, the older high schoolers go grab some clothes. It's one of those parts that temporarily breaks the tension and seriousness of it. It's a bittersweet scene.

At Muji hospital in comes rolling Doctor J pushing a body. She enters a room and dumps this now apparently dead body in *GASP* other dead bodies!!! But wait, she realizes this show didn't give her a flashback scene so here it is!

She is standing in front of the medicine cabinet where there is a plethora of other vials with a mysterious darkened substance. She grabs it and proceeds to inject the elderly woman's IV. Yeah, the mother of the whom from a few episodes ago that is part of the hostpial survivors (hopefully not the cult, I'll have to fact check that) Oh shit her eyes turn black and starts writhing in agony while Doc stands by and observes the effects until...her body goes limp and lifeless. In which she jots down some notes of how far she lasted before succumbing. Looks like she is trying to find a cure for these mutants. Geez.

After her little retrospect, she walks out of the room of dead patients and heads on over to Ji Hye and her newborn but well fuck she actually runs into the daughter asking to see her mother. Doctor can only use the "minimalize exposure" for so long but she is starting to get a tad sketch but not enough to not believe her. Confusing wording there, eh? She does trust the doctor so yeah. That shit ain't going to hold up much longer I bet.

I don't know what's going on here but Doctor pulls up her notes and goes around matching the patients of her records until...she hears the newborn. Creepy music as this implies she is eyeing on the newborn.

At the Jingam Mart, the 3 high school students are having dinner and with all the doom and gloom they continue to jest with each other. Their attention gets diverted to Choi who strolls on by with his cart full of more food and they giddily circle around him. So he tasks them to pass arouund the food to the rest of the people.

Do Yoon and Chang are happy as hell. You know who isn't? Some young woman who is sitting by herself. She definitely looks like something is on her mind and it doesn't look like she shares the same excitement as everyone else to partake in food. The ever so sweet Choi notices this too and approaches her to personally hand her food that she warmly accepts. He asks if she is okay but she can only give a slight nod.

Tae Han circles back and makes his way back to Hwa Sun to give her back the gun she dropped during her scuffle with Lee Soo Hyun. Or not? I don't know but the point is that he handed her a gun so that's that.

She looks a bit more preturbed more than usual. Remember when she originally told him that that so-called existence from within this black smoke? No longer so-called because she reveals that she actually saw it on her way over here. The monster with all those tentacles. She didn't see the monster in its full glory but believes this tentacled monster is what controls the smoke. Oh and also has some kind of bias towards Hwa Sun? She continues that it could have attacked her but for some yet to be known reason it just did not. Crazy, right? 

Before more can be said further, there is some outside disturbance outside and they spot a silhouette. Everyone is pretty cautious. Except my boi, Choi. He says it must be Dong Rim but Tae Han tells him NAHHHH issa trap! I mean, Choi did send out that signal for survivors to head to Jingam Mart, did he not?

Choi prevails and oh goody it actually is Dong Rim!

She is immediately taken into the backroom with the adults to question what happened to her. She claims that once she got off the bus she did actually run with the rest of the group but before she knew it she saw a monster within the black smoke and she lost any memory after that. 

Hwa Sun then turns to Ms. Na, whom Choi was talking to just prior that looked shaken up. She was the one who got pulled under by the tentacles. I must've missed the part where she survived. Anyway, she asked what happened to her. All Ms. Na can say is just that. She got dragged away but has no other memory just that when she regained consciousness and the monster was no longer there.

It's been quite a long day so Choi sends Ms. Na and Dong Rim to go get some read. 

Hwa Sun approaches Dong Rim when she is all alone to be honest with her and asks if she, by any chance, inhaled the black smoke. Weird thing is, she doesn't give a direct answer but and instead deflects by acknowledging that she is the one who inhaled the smoke so.....?

Interesting how she knew that but Dong Rim reminds her that she pieced it together when she walked in on her at the beginning of this episode when she had that hallucination of Soo Hyun in the high school hallway. Hwa Sun explains to her that once the black smoke is inhaled, it seems to pounce of your worst fear and if you give in to it, it can cause bad things to happen. Either killing yourself or murdering others. The only way that she was able to escape it was to focus on the people who deeply care for her.

Dong Rim replies that hmmm well she has no one that gives a hoot about her. Hwa Sun says SHE DOES, BIZNATCH! Oh, yeah. They hug it out and call it a night.

In another section is Ms. Na taking a shower and looks like she is having intense flashbacks to when the tentacled monster initially grabbed her just a few hours prior. She is seen panicking as the tentacle is coming for her. Poor lady. Dong Rim enters the shower and Ms. Na tries to play it off.

Okay, now back to the hospital where the security guy is continuing to hallucinate him coming to terms with wheeling that sacrifice to his death. As he was making his way to insert the key to lock/unlock the door, he gets cray cray and thinks he has to kill him for real and goes chasing after his ghost. Uh oh...he left the key on the door. OMINOUS.

Hmm well there seems to be blood on Hwa Sun's jacket so she goes to the clothing section for a change. Literally. As she takes off her jacket she realizes that she has Jin Seok's phone. Remember that mini altercation when the fuck ass tried to get on the bus when they first left? Well he dropped his phone like a dumb dumb and Hwa Sun picked it up and placed it in her jacket pocket.

Upon turning it on and scrolling through his gallery, she comes across a video he recorded of school girls bullying Dong Rim. She immediately turns it off and heads on out. Just out of sight though....tentacles are slowly moving on the ceiling!!!!!!

After Dong Rim is done with her shower, she notices that Hwa Sun left her some handpicks clothes to change into. How sweet. She decides she wants to take a stroll around the store a bit and picks up a diary she wants to write in.

Hwa Sun is still up and decides she wants a new weapon so she picks up a rake thingy. She comes across Dong Rim writing in her newly found diary. They have another heart to heart talk and she opens up about her bullying. In fact, she says that she is glad that she world has gone to shit. The world she knew wasn't kind to her.

In a brief flashback, it is implied that Jin Seok may have tried to pimp her out. 

She consoles the sad and broken Dong Rim. Now that she opened up, Hwa Sun opens up as well that she can empathize as far as being a shitty world and all. She said she was in the middle of trying to track down the person who killed her husband and so when she did, well yeah you guys already know. Dong Rim says that if should she ever fall in that deep hole, will she be her anchor? Awwww. It's hella late so better get some sleep, yo!

OMG I just love this next scene. Chang is miffed that the shit they are eating is not "real chicken" I mean...highly proceeds foods here dood. So, he goes on a cute tangent on what it really means to eat crispy, greasy, crunchy chicken! Oof, that is getting me so hungry! He is great at describing how devilishly delicious it is. And everyone has a good laugh about it.

Except for Ms. Na. She gets a flashback too. Not a savory one, either.

Pre pandemic, Choi accosts Ms. Na in public asking if she knows the truth about the fate of Dong Rim's father. He somehow got word and suspected his dad had something to do with it. Since Ms. Na was on the phone when the incident occurred, he innocently wanted to confirm if that is what happened. She obviously accepted Chairman's bribe so she is super defensive about it and tells him to fuck off. That basically answers that.

It is now bed time and everyone is asleep. That is, except for Hwa Sun and Tae Han. Does these cats ever sleep!!!!??? Well, I guess someone has to stay up and keep a lookout if god forbid there are any mutant intruders or anything. He hands her a caffinated drink and briefly sits down before he decides to get up again to leave. This is like an untentional running gag or something. He never likes to stay in one spot for very long now does he? Hwa Sun thinks it's a great idea and decides to go with him on the rooftop.

Now, we are back at the husband and Ji Hye emerges from her slumber to ask Doctor J where her husband is. She reminds her that he went to search for Sergeant Park except that...her husband never returned soooo that's a little alarming. Doctor tries to reassure her. Upon returning, she tries to stay strong but she is obviously sensing that something is not right.

And oh boy.....

Sunnyeo and her goons walk to the back and of course Sergeant Park and Officer Hyun Ho are bound and tied to the ground. Well, dam. 

Tae Han and Hwa Sun are on the rooftop and using a phone he has a camera and points it at the outside of the Jingam Mart in a panoramic sort of way. He is scoping out a nearby place that appears mutants are just all over the place. At least their spot is safe, right?

The brain wince strikes again but this time, she sees through Sunnyeo's eyes as she is marking a blood sigil on the police man. She has not met Sunnyeo as of yet but Tae Han sure has as it is all flooding back to him when she said some cryptic shit to him right when she was starting up her black circle altar. As per usual, he runs like a bat out of hell and makes his way to the hospital. She wanted to go to but he argues that she must stay to hold down the fort with the survivors here.

Little does he know....

The re-emergance of Jin Seok!! He must've heard the same exact message Choi sent out because he is standing in front of it and gives a wacky villain smile. He looks like shit as it is evident his body is under going a few grotesque transformation.

Doctor J gets 2 flashbacks this epiosde. Oh joy. This is a flashback to 1 day after the blackout when she is trying to resusitate a young girl while the mother is wailing about her baby. Unfortunately she did not make it. A little while later is when the nurse yet to be revealed as Lee Soo Hyun comes to her aid as she looks a little down. Infact, she plants the seed that maybe she could work on an antidote for the black smoke!!!!!! She looks so innocent and everything but once the nurse walks away, she gives a sinister smile that she just set the tone for the rest of these events.

Yup. She bites and wheels out the first of many human guinea pigs.
