NEEDS PICS Alfred Hitchcock Presents S1E5
Episode 5 "Into Thin Ait"
It's a cheery day when in rides a woman and her elderly mother approach a swanky hotel. The mother seems rather tired and eager to rest so the daughter assures her that it wouldn't take much longer until she is rest of her old lady butt down.
Upon entering, there seems to be a language barrier as the front desk speaks french and it's apparent that she does not. She asks if she can speak with someone more well versed in english. Hotel desk guy switches gears and as luck would have it, he in fact does speak english. She tells the man that she made reservations 6 weeks ago from India. Upon collecting the reservation that they can only honor 1 room due to how big of a demand (from what I can understand, this boi has a thick accent). Mother is annoyed but daughter just accepts what she can get and signs away.
Both arrive in the room with help from the bell boy...is that what he is called? Well yeah it's is such a beautiful room but Mother ain't about that right now because she is tired AF.
Perhaps a little too under the weather which prompts the daughter to contact a doctor that is within this hotel for this very reason. Mother looks hella ill and she her temperature if getting taken he asks just when did she start to feel ick so once again she had to retell her story as it was while they were in India sight seeing and stuff.
Doctor comes to the conclusion that she is sick AF and needs medication immediately but due to how late it is, all the pharmacies and shops are closed. As luck would have it, he has a wife who is licensed to give out the medicine. He wrote the prescription and sends her off. He even offers the carriage who knows the exact route to get there. With all things taken care of, she is able to take off. He practically rushes her out the room. She promises her mother that she will rush back.
A hop, skip and a jump away she reaches the wife but says that due to type of medication on the note, it will take a bit of time to get it. A unknown amount of time has passed when she comes back in. Daughter looks at the clock and is like...bruh it's midnight I need to GTFO!
She arrives back to the hotel and upon asking to get back in her hotel room, the same hotel desk clerk doesn't seem to recognizer as he instinctually speaks french. She was a bit too anxious to get to her mother to not notice this descrepency. She even has to say her name again for her reservation. Hmm, that's odd. He can't seem to find her name this time.
Thinking she went to the wrong hotel, she was on her way to exit but almost immediately turned heel when she realized: nope! she actually is at the correct hotel. She even tells him so! Nuh uh! He says back. Even going so far to even show her the registration book that the room she claimed to have booked is already reserved wth some dude that has actually been there for some time now so yeah she is totes dead ass wrong.
She refuses to believe it and heads towards the stairs to help her sicky mother. The hotel clerk ninjas over to block her. Are you for serious? She turns around and recognizes the porter that originally helped her and her mother into the room. So the dude gets called over to confirm.
What a surprise, he claims ignorance.
But wait, the bottle in her hands! She comes up with another idea and says that the doctor that sent her to get the medicine will confirm her story. As she motions towards the stairs, the clerk is like NUH UH and reveals that the doctor isn't even on site and won't be back until morning.
Home girl is starting to lose her marbles.
Hotel clerk begs her to try to remember and still poses the option that she may have the wrong hotel. BUT WAIT! The maid! The porter fetches the maid and to no one's surprise, she does not remember her and fucks off.
She is offered a room for the night so she can sort her matters in the morning but this woman is just so stuck on finding her mother. She can't even think about going to be not knowing where her sick mother is at. However, in a quick drop of a hat, she decides to change her mind and take the offer and head up to the room to rest.
Upon entering she flops down on the couch.
The next morning, she resumes her crazed rant again how she swears that her sick mother is there somewhere and she really did sign the registration book and there really was a doctor who told her to go fetch the medicine. The more as she is talking the more this police guy can't even. So he goes to the other police guy (they are not even dressed as police!) dumps the responsibility to the other younger, hotter, looking guy and he yeets out of there.
This younger gentleman tasks another dude to seek to confirm if these 2 women were even on that boat. The daughter is like: u wot m8?!!?! You don't believe meeeeee?! WTF!
He tells her to not get it twisted, he just wants to confirm the story and go from there.
She has no family other than her mother so she really is distraught. She even went through the trouble of buying the medicine that she should have taken a long time ago. This gives the police man an idea and suggests to open the medicine as to give them a clue. As he unwraps it...it turns out it is not medicine but typical water that can literally been attained anywhere, not so specialty shop.
In comes the other guy who says he got word of the confirmation that both were indeed listed. Even the mother.
Both head downstairs to the same 'ol hotel clerk and despite the information he was given, he still does not remember her nor her mother. No staff does.
As the police guy takes the woman to eat some breakfast is when she comes up with another revelation: the phone. The doctor claimed he couldn't communicate with his wife by phone which is why he wrote that prescription for her. However, when she left the wife's home, she swore she heard the phone ringing. So like, what's up with that, man??! Only downside that it is her word against...hers and she has no idea how to get there since she was taken there by carriage and thus, being out of sight.
She is starting to share details about the room and so if she can match what she saw IRL with her recollection, that in itself should corroborate her story. So off they head back to the hotel.
Well....upon entering the room. To her horror, everything is 100% different!
Feeling defeat, she accepts that it is what it is. She is persuaded to board the next boat back home and file a missing person's report and even stay at another hotel. She is just sooo over looking at this fucking hotel.
However, as she is walking out, she can't help but take notice that there are workers painting a new color and that is exactly what makes her change her mind in a split second and she wants to stay here now. To everyone's shock and awe she is adamant that she wants her original room, 342.
The hotel clerk tries to persuade her to take another room which is just as large, coupled with the fact that a man is still booked for the room! You can't just made a paying customer change rooms all willy nilly! Hotel clerk is pretty defensive but after a little poking and prodding from the police offer, clerk reluctantly reliquishes that she can in the very least look at the room.
Room 342 is reached and she takes a little catwalk stroll around the room. The hotel clerk and police guy are in the hallway and she uses that to her knowledge as she stalls for time and uses her right hand to scratch at the walls. A few seconds later she gets enough peel where she fucking RIPS into the wall paper to reveal....
Yup, it's the rose wallpaper underneath! What a development! The guy can't gaslight her out of this this time!
More unknown time has passed as she is sitting being all worried about her mother and everything. The original police man makes her grand reappearance and proceeds to tell them that they reached an impass.
The truth of the matter is that the doctor concluded that he trolled her. While she was out to get that fake ass medicine, he took this time to seek out "arrangements". Why, though? He concludes that it would have been bad publicity for the exposition cruise thingy if a woman died from that event so they simply covered it up and ordered the hotel staff to lie and paint over everything.
So, now that the truth is out, she asks if she can at least see or take her mother's body?
"No." he says "Your mother got inflicted with the plague."
Damn, bruh.
