Episode 4 "Lab Rats"
Up on the rooftop a man, a successfull business man named Edmund, makes a toast in celebration of their completion in creating an antidepressant that took over 10 years. It's a small group and all people are part of this team to make it happen. Plus the wife. We did it, bois!
They move inside where they are having a fancy as fuck dinner. Everything is functioning as normal at the moment with regular chatter but of course it is not complete without the jealous wife side eye the hubby when he seems to give a little too much attention to the younger woman even longingly touching her hand to give her "advice". During this conversation, one woman, Margarethe, asks to see this treasured prototype they were working oh so hard for.
He happily obliges and goes to retrieve it but after entering the code he discovers...it is gone!
He goes to his security and says that he literally put the prototype in the safe at 5pm earlier that day so who the the has been in his lovely abode since then? Security only says his guests. Ahhhh, let's confront the guests.
With the same security man in tow, Edmund approaches the small dinner crowd but this time, he is not a happy camper at all. He straight up asks who the hell took it and this shit ain't a joke, yo.
Margarethe is the first to be frisked and searched by the security guard followed by Phillip who calls out Abdi due to his shit eating smirk so Edmund demands he is next to be frisked. Oda pipes up is shocked, I say, SHOCKED that he would think she could have stolen it. Edmund wastes no time to search her himself but Iselin, his wife, is like aw hell nah!! She decides to takeover and finish frisking her.
Nothing is found on anyone but this angers Edmund even more so the security guard tells them to undress to prove it. Like, right down to their underwear. The group are shocked and reserve until he whips out his gun to show he means business. Abdi is the first to undress followed by Margarethe. Iselin is standing right by her angry husband when he decides to undress her. She's like WTF I'm your WIFE! I guess he didn't want to leave any stone unturned.
A few minutes pass and everyone, sans Edmund and security guard, are all stripped to their underwear and standing awkwardly looking at each other. Security guard rummages through their belongings and there is still no trace of the prototype.
Edmund stares around the room and spots a mouse figurine which gives him the idea and makes his frustration snap into...oh yeah that's it! Everyone head to the lab and get locked up in the box. Get it? Lab rats?
They get escorted into a glass enclosure, still mostly nakey. Yes, including the wife whom is clearly doesn't trust her ass. He tells the group that they will rot in there but this is how he will pry the traitor: the lock code. The lock code to get out of this enclosure was the same lock code to get in the safe with the prototype so, yeah. Good luck dudes and dudettes and he strolls away.
Adbi chuckles, like wow, this clever mothafucka. Phillip then gets an impulse tick which makes his face contort that Margethe explains to the rest of the group that only happens when he gets stressed out. Abdi, with his shit eating smirk on his face accuses him of being the traitor. But nah, let''s get to brainstorming.
Iselin is the first to point the finger to Oda who outright accuses her of sleeping with her husband in which he just as quickly shuts down. Of course, nothing she says convinces her otherwise. Oda, is Edmunds, assistant, afterall.
Phillip's tick triggers again and tells everyone that stop being freaked, they'll get used to it, ya cry babies.
He shares that he gains nothing from this sabotage since he has a share in the company. He is quick to point to Abdi, the younger male and theorizes this "smarty pants" over here is the suspect here due to him never getting the partner titles as Edmund allegedly promised and this is his way to getting back at him. Abdi does the same ol smirk and says he is throwing his out because he is jelly of his smartness. Even Iselin backs him up saying just last week Phillip was sulking about Abdi taking credit for his work. Phillip is like sure but I laid the ground work for him to do it. Abdi is quick to jump up and say he barely did shit and as a matter of fact, he threw out most of his code anyway.
This triggers him hardcore and they get into a big scuffle. After some punches Abdi gets knocked the fuck out.
In the security room, Edmund is watching the cameras witnessing all of that unfold when in walks the security guards saying he finished looking over all the rooms and not a trace of the prototype. Could it possibly be flushed down the toilet or something? Nahh instead, he tasks him to do thorough background checks on everyone, including his wife.
With Abdi knocked out cold, that's when they think...hmm what if he really was the traitor?? That means they will be locked in there forever. Oh noes. Iselin tries to calm everyone down saying it won't be forever and eventually Edmund will come to his senses and realize no one is the dang traitor and let them go.
If only Phillip shared that same sentiment. He shares that Margarethe would know how cut throat Edmund is as she was one of the few who survived this '99 massacre. Oda inquires more info on that. Phillip explains that a long while back, the company was on its dying legs due to bad investments so Edmund was able to persuade his staff to buy company stock in which many put their life savings in it knowing he was going to file for bankruptcy and 6 months later starting a new business. This led to 2 people committing suicide.
Iselin tries to back up her husband saying he isn't a monster because he is generous and attentive.
"Attentive" Oooh that strikes a nerve in Phillip because he reveals Margarethe is the one who has to remind him of her birthday and every buys the presents for her too. Ouch! Speaking of which, he aims his suspicions on Iselin as it is always the one they least suspect. Oda is more than happy to jump in on this theory.
In the security room, the security guard shows Edmund some revealing footage, not to us, viewers, of course. This does however compel him to stomp back in the lab and says for everyone to cut the shit and confess now.
Of course no one does, not even the unconscious Abdi. So Edmund decides to switch on the deadly gas and says confess now and put in the code or they will all die from the gas within 5 minutes. He walks away.
Holy fucking shit now everyone is panicking. Phillip is trying to wake up sleeping beauty, thinking he is still the traitor. Iselin is banging on the glass to plead Edmund to come to his damn senses. Oda whips out a pad and pen and tells everyone to what they think the code is and then they try them all. Phillip be like wut??? and not going to expose the thief???
Time is ticking down and the mice have succumbed to the gas. Infuriated, Edmund ups the gas line even more intensely. Edmund is at the glass just watching them all suffer as Iselin is desperately trying to get him to come to his senses.
At the very last second, Oda runs to the lock and successfully types in the right and everyone escapes. Edmund goes to aid his wife but she stares daggers at his soul so he next focuses on Oda as she identified to be the traitor.
Oda confesses that she flushed it down the toilet because she is a double agent for a rival company to give them the upper hand. Edmund is like uhhh we'll make another one? So now they are free to go.
They are now outside and their departing words with just Edmund alone with a now dressed Oda. That background check revealed that Oda was the daughter of one of the men who committed suicide and this was really an act of revenge. Her named changed once she got adopted. Oda gives her a piece of her mind but it is obvious that he has no conscience. Oof, and it turns out he really was having an affair with her this whole time but now that has come to an end, she is leaving to that rival company for good. After a last hug, they finally depart.
As he walks away, he realizes something is not right. He looks at his reflection on the glass door on top of recollects the earlier events and holy shit. This smart ass bitch had it all figured out!!
She indeed did take the prototype and during the dinner party but as she hugged him on the rooftop, she slipped it in his pocket. After all the locked up lab fuckery happens and they are where they were and did that last hug was where she retrieved the prototype. She almost got away with it if it weren't for that dang nabbit meddling reflection!
This old fart is able to catch up to Oda right down the street and says thinks she is so smart but of course not as smart as him. Aaaand he is able to retrieve it from her.
He arrives back in the lab where his wife is to gleefully tell her he finally retrieved the prottype but Iselin doesn't give a fuck. Weilding a gun, she forces Edmund in the same glass enclosure as he forced her into. He begs and pleads for his pooky bear to come to his senses but nope. This mothafucka gonna pay.
Phllip, Abdi, Margarethe and the security guard are standing right behind her. Iselin tells Margarethe to start the gas and she is all too happy to do so.
Once the gas starts gassing, she tells Edmund one simple thing. If he truly loves her, then surely he would have no problem remembering her birthday now. Because that is the new code for him to escape.
Revenge is a dish best served cold or in Edmund's case...gassed.
