Now: Episode 10
Timeline: July 5, 2005
This episode starts with a quick flashback with mini Satoru and the rest of his buddies looking at this beautiful sight for sore eyes.
It is now the last day of school in the ORIGINAL timeline. While teacher Mr. Real Killer All Along is giving his class a heartfelt speech, adult Satoru is peeling back his memories of that day. The original timeline all Kayo, Hiromi and Aya were murdered. Along quick flashes of the rapid events like an innocent man being pinned for the murders, Satoru crying in his mothers arms and his dead mother on the floor. Why is this so shocked? Because when Satoru fainted at the ending of last episode, he went back in a coma for a little over a year. Note the dates.
All that came rushing at him.
Adult Satoru wakes up in the night in his new timeline reaching out. His mom snaps the fuck up and rushes to his side sobbing. And more sobbing.
When the sun finally rises up and Satoru doing some exercises to help his walking outdooors. All he's thinking is his aforementioned fragmented memories that he's struggling to retain.
The young friend from last episode named Kumi catches up with him. He congratulates her on the successful surgery. She only has come back for a checkup and also to see how Satoru is doing. She has a keychain on her backpack catches his eye and inquires about it. Turns out, it originally belonged to Airi in which she gave it to her.
Further memories are getting peeled back at the mention of Airi.
Unbeknownst to them, a creepy man is peeking at them from the bushes. The man with the weird mustache. Hol up.
Satoru is next seen on the hallway stairs talking to Kenya revealing that his memories of his original timeline where those 3 were murdered felt so real. Kenya tries to play devil's advocate (not sure if I'm using this term correctly lol) and says that if what he says is/was true in that timeline, who iz da killah? At this point, Satoru's brain is so frazzled he doesn't know anymore. Kenya does have some suspicious of his own but doesn't want to voice it due to the power of suggestion so he continues to keep it to his damn self.
During some more physical therapy, Satoru is convinced to not let this go. One way or another, he WILL unearth more of these memories. Little does he know that the machine he is currently using was donated by the Nishifunabashi City Council. What significance does it play? You'll find out eventually.
Change of scenery now. 2 men exit Chiba Central Hospital. One man refers to the other as Mr. Nishizono and relays to him that the grants they received is hella fire and that he should consider running for mayor or sum. Mr. Nishizono responds that while it's nice, he wants to keep himself humbled in his position dealing with everyday people. So whatev's. He claims to have some ambition elsewhere. His face does miiiiighty familiar though.
Now that Satoru is back in his room he is stuck in his thoughts thinking about Airi and hopefully would get a chance to see her again to unearth some more memories. The doctor comes to check up on him in which is asked permission to go on a little field trip to help trigger some of his memories. Doctor doesn't think he is ready just yet but a light mince of words he's like SIKE! You have my permission!
All by his lonesome self, he crutches by himself outside believing that he'll just go wherever the road takes him and will eventually spark a memory eventually. He reaches a crosswalk. A familiar looking crosswalk indeed. He stops to observe his surroundings and zeroes in on a smashed up soda can n the street.
Awwww snap some memories are indeed coming back! First episode, that is. He got snippets of his delivery boy days. Fragments are slashing before his very eyes that triggered by the aforementioned can, to the boy's life he tried to save to even Airi herself. This in itself triggers all the Airi memories now!! He remembers how loyal and sweet and caring she was.
Well, fuck.
Speaking of which, there she is on the sidewalk coming his way. Except she just walked right past him. That sucks.
It is the evening now. Kenya and the other dude are in the office or home. Whatever the fuck. Kenya is looking at the pin board of all the victims and thinking about what Satoru said. Out loud, he says to dude that the statue of limitations are up for each and every one of the victims. The man corrects him that 1 is in fact not up yet. A 2001 murder in Chiba. Kenya takes note that in that young girl's murder, there was no arrest therefore no connection. Huh. Weird. Could be unrelated but who knows.
Conversation gets cut short when Kenya gets a call from Satoru wanting to borrow an old yearbook.
Dude says yo! Let's have a shot! So they both drink to that.
The next morning, Kumi returns to visit Satoru and along the way she sees a poster being set up advertising a BBQ with fireworks. She gleefully shows to to Sachiko and invites Satoru but he doesn't seem to share the same enthusiasm but still agrees to attend! Thrilled!!!
At this exact time, Kenya pops in the room too. What a popular boi! He bears the coveted year book.
Not too long later, everyone is on the bus enroute to the BBQ and fireworks presumably. Satoru sitting next to Kumi and in the other car Sachiko is sitting nexto to Kayo. Driver?
Shit fuck shit. The one that reaches for the lollipops....
His internet monologue this time it is NOT Satoru. He's saying the sheer thrill of this impending showdown with Satoru and he can't fucking wait. Creepy as all hell. They all continue to drive happily to Mount Fuji.
Episode 11 is next.
