Episode 8 "Broken Windows, Open Doors"
There will be a series of flashbacks throughout this episode which may or may not be annoying.
Kenny walks in the station updating Boyd on the living arrangements of the survivors from Colony House however Boyd is distracted by something and proceeds to takes his leave. Kenny gets frustrated and says that the town needs Boyd and he's there's not giving a hoot and wtf, yo! Boyd raises his voice at him just as loud to exclaim to Kenny to buck up because he is set to replace him when he is gone and will need to apply the same criticisms to himself so that when the time comes so like...step off his nuts already.
Boyd stomps away and right into the basement where Sarah was hidden in the church.
There is a flashback with Boyd, his wife and Ellis in the back seat. Having your normal family chatter on the road. That is until they reach that bloop AKA tree in the road that RV family and everyone else encountered signaling they have now entered mysterious monster town.
Present day Boyd and Sarah walking in the woods. He treats her with such contempt after the shit she tried to pull, despite hearing the story the late Father Kahtri. Not to mention she literally tried to kill a child. So no matter what voices was messing with her head these are straight up facts and he doesn't go easy on her. He says the only reason why he doesn't put a bullet through her head is because how much he trusts and respects Kahtri in his conviction that she is the key to restoring the whole town's peoples back to their respective lives.
Jade is outside chilling on the porch of Kenny's crib and gets miffed when he finds out 3 survivors from Colony House are "temporarily" going to stay there. He's being his usual dickish self and sets off his search to find Victor, thinking this cat can help him.
Julie naturally goes to live with her parents and explains her version of events of what led up to the invasion. She even mentioned being at Victor's at the time of chaos commencing and the look on her parent's faces oooohhhhhhhh. She goes on to talk about going through the portal. It's actually called a farway tree. I'm so stupid to keep calling it a portal haha but Ethan calls it that. He pipes up to explain about how you can go to any place and they need to find him. Julie starts to have a mental breakdown since she's in the middle of this shit show.
Jade storms in with his manical banter, with no awareness of his surroundings that was completely inappropriate so Jim shoves his ass out the door. This is when he tries to tell him what he found Jim don't DAF. Even in his infuriatedness (that a word??) he tells him that the radio signal thingy worked but he believes it will be better if they can be able to reach higher ground. So there's that.
Flashing back to the past, is the moment when Boyd and his family first encounter the monster town as it is fast approaching nightfall but Father Kahtri dashes in front of his car like a goofball faking a hit for insurance money scam but yo it's not for that! He pleads for them to stop what they are doing, get out of the car and get inside a building for safety. Boyd's wife doesn't buy it and pulls out a gun and tells her husband to keep driving.
They hear sqwaks in the distance (the crows?) and that is when they decide to take him seriously and go with him into a shed. Inside this underground shed is Donna and the man Ellis would later have a drunken altercation with at Fatima's celebration from last episode. Father Kahtri promises that he will answer any and all questions as they must be confused. As he finishes, everyone hears the screams of a woman being slaughtered.
Present time is Kristie popping present time Ellis' shoulder back in place with a nurturing Fatima sitting right next to him. She meets up with Kenny who returns a book to her and she gives him a kiss on the cheek. Barf.
Jim and Jade meets up with Donna who is trying to work on replenishing Colony House in which they politely ask to install an antenna since that house is the highest point. Without a fight, she actually approves. 14 people died from last night's massacre and she doubt's much of anyone will come back so might as well make the house useful for something, right?
Boyd leads Sarah to a shed away from society and asks her to stay put until he gets back AND THEN they will start the real fantastic voyage.
Flashback Father Kahtri and everyone else steps out once it's morning with the welcoming image of people's internal insides no longer...internal. Him and Donna do "the talk" with the family in the diner which is a tough concept but soon accepts it. Boyd has a good head on his shoulders naturally takes lead in town in where everybody has to help out everybody. Easy to see why and how he quickly rose in the social ranks.
With his military experience, he uses his knowledge to come up with ideas on how to establish this town. It sure as hell wasn't the well organized town it is today.
Present day. Tabitha finds Julie in the basement to finally have "the talk" of their own about the impending divorce. Julie blames herself but her mother assures her that no, it was issues between him and his dad combined with the guilt over the accidental death of the youngest child.
Kenny starts to take advice to heart and tells him to stop assuming he is not coming back. But he says it in a more filibustery way.
This is when Donna walks in and overhears and asks what the fuck he is talking about? Where he going??
It has been a few weeks now in Past Timeline since the family arrived and Ellis is noticing that his mother is starting to crack and takes these concerns to his dad. As much as a positive role he is with the town, the less he is paying attention to his wife's well being and is continuing to downplay Ellis' concerns.
As he continues his search to gather materials, he comes across a dog. Upon trying to catch it, he becomes lost in the woods. For many hours actually where it is now night fall and you know what that means! While he hears the monsters off the in the distance, he skipped and fell in an opening surrounded by vines. The monsters approached and lingered for a little bit longer but slowly fuck off. Boyd looks around and discovers the talismans for the first time.
Present Boyd stops by the clinic to check on Ellis and Fatima mentioning that is about to take off in the forest. He obviously still holds a grudge against his dad because "that worked well last time." After he leaves, Fatima goes up to him and she can no longer hold her tongue. She says this town is changing people into what they wouldn't normally do. Yeah's that's been the underlying theme past couple episodes, noticed that?
Flashback past is when it is now morning and Boyd lives another day. He gleefully gathers all the talismans he can he heads back to town but along the way he hears...gunshots. Once he gets into town he sees his wife going on a shooting spree and shooting innocent civilians dead. Right when she has a gun pointed at Donna, Boyd confronts her and asks what is happen?!?!
She has mentally snapped. She believes that this is not reality but in fact a dream. Death is her way getting people to wake up from this nightmare. Boyd can only look in horror to see how many people she has murdered in cold blood and is not able to reason with her to put the gun away. She seriously believes she is doing everyone a favor. As soon as Ellis runs to his mom's side, she points the gun at him but before she can shoot, Boyd decides to save his son. That is some dark morbid shit right there, bro.
Present day Boyd packs all his shit up and is ready to take off but Ellis ends up following him all the way into the woods by the shred to apologize and can finally let go of his grudge. They hug it out buuuut and all is well. For like .5 seconds because Sarah stepped out of the shed and Ellis is FUMING angry asking what the fuck she is doing here and not dead yet. His dad tries promises to explain it all to him when he comes back but all Ellis can do is bottle up a whole new anger for him and walks back to town having to keep this secret now.
Kenny has brought the whole community together asking for their patience in these trying times all whole Jim asks everyone for help to build the antenna and like the charming community they are, they do.
