Paper Girls S1E6

Previously on Paper Girls

Now: Episode 6 "Matinee"

There is footage of a presidential debate with Ronald Reagan and *gasp* Erin on the opposing side of the podium. The point of contention was to call out Erin's claim over taking responsibility taking care of her parents whom are now deceased. It was the equivalent to saying "no one put a gun to your head" argument. Erin defends herself by saying there was LITERALLY no one else to take care of her mom after her dad died so she had to step up and sacrifice herself for her family. Ronald Reagan is pretty much like "Well that's on you if you want to volunteer, kid. You let that happen." Paraphrase to the best of my recollection.

It was all a dreeeeaaam. Mac shouts to wake up Erin. They all got out of the cab (courtesy of the stolen monies from the party). All four reach this rave club. The bouncer was already clued in for their incoming arrival and after Tiff gauges with him, he gets the nod of approval and lets them all in. Once entered they are like WTF because it is pure culture shock to them and everyone is just dancing their life away waving their raving sticks or whatever. Tiff heads off by herself to look for...herself?

Mac is still pissed at KJ for punching her so she heads to the bathroom to clean up her nose with Erin trailing close behind her to aid. KJ is just by herself to deal with the party craziness.

Once little Tiff finally found Raver Tiff and they head in the back for a little chat. And oh, what a cute reunion and convenient that she straight up believes her without any hesitation whatsoever. She fully accepts this little mind fuck of time travel that her mini Tiff and friends went through. In fact she seems to calm mini self down when Mini thinks The Old Watch is going to catch up to them. She even offers her time travelling friends to crash at her place. She completely embraces it.

Once home, all girls crash out on her bed while she decides to take the couch. Raver Tiff helps mini Tiff out with her hair and share some more words of wisdom before ducking out for the night.

The next morning Raver Tiff is the first one up. She opens up a window and gets a Surge out of the fridge, aww don't you miss Surge? What a time capsule. Mini Tiff wakes up noticing KJ is already gone. After reaching the kitchen Raver Tiff says she gave KJ some cash in case she wanted anything from the store and she takes off for a walk.

KJ is seen walking down the street and comes across the aforementioned movie theatre and buys a ticket to the 2001: A Space Oddessey movie where she sees College KJ with her future girlrfriend. She purposefully sits a few rows behind them. She is very nervous especially when she sees them embrace each other.

Raver Tiff said she looked through notes and notices that the next folding is actually not too far away! But there is some missing info they actually need. Mini Tiff comes up with the bright suggestion that they should go to 1999 Larry since he is still alive in this timeline. Oop who else walks in. Some skater guy who is Raver Tiff's boyfriend and is confuzzled as heck but asks why she didn't drive him to work today. They didn't argue much but it was a little tense for a hot second.

She deescalates it by dead ass dropping the conversation and just saying she will go to the farm where '99 Larry is at. Only mini Tiff goes because Erin and Mac are still hella pissed and doesn't want to be anywhere near him, even if it is a past version of him. Away they go.

Skater boyfriend guy doesn't pass mini Tiff's vibe check so after he gets dropped off, she questions Raver self why she is even with him. I mean, she is an iNtElLeCtUaL and associating with his fuck ass? All Raver Tiff can say is that she will understand when she gets older. That doesn't stop the hella judgemental Tiff.

Back at the house, apartment, whatever that place they are at. Erin gets anxious and uses the phone to dial up her mom but can't muster to say anything once she picks up. Ermahgerd there is a crazy idea here Mac and Erin just sneak out of the door and take a peek at Erin's future self and family. They eventually enter their backyard and observes them. It's a bittersweet moment. Glad she got to see her mother again. Mac has her own way of comforting her but it is something Erin needs to hear as she says that there is a lot more going up beneath the surface so things are pretty complicated.

The Tiff's reach 1999 Larry's farm. Larry looks all nice and stuff and greets them warmly to a dead pan Tiff 1&2. Raver Tiff cuts to the chase and says they are with the STF Underground but 1999 Larry feigns acknowledgement of the group. Mini Tiff has had enough and goes to the barn where all his timey wimey shit is at and take off with him trailing behind him.

Hoping to see that time travelling robot, she realizes it's not even there yet in this current timeline so no wonder. What a shame though. They totally could have used it to get home or so they thought anyway. Raver Tiff holds up 2022 Larry's brown book with all his nerdy calculates and 1999 Larry is what wut!?

Mini Tiff says she is missing a page and needs info from that missing page and then they will GTFO. Larry is eager to share his folding calculations but Mini Tiff still holds a grudge against him and yelled at 1999 Larry for what 2022 Larry did which is totally unfair but she needed to get that anger out so whatever. Raver Tiff tells Larry her name in the phone should he needs to get in contact with them again.

Mac and Erin are walking back to Raver Tiff's apartment (or whatever the heck it is called) and they both get into an arguement that neither understands each other's perspective on the time travel baloney so they make like Journey and go their separate ways.

2001: A Space Odessey film comes to an end and mini KJ catches up with Lauren while College KJ went to the bathroom (presumably). After a brief exchange of thoughts of the movie KJ decides now is the right time to ask Lauren about her homosexuality but under the guise of liking movies. It seems that Lauren got the implication right away but still talks along the pretense of movies and she makes an amazing double meaningful answer and says that "Everybody moves at their own pace and some people may not get your choice in movie right away but just go all in and once you do it will be liberating." Which seems to alleviate KJ but abruptly leaves when she sees College KJ coming back.

Tiff 1 and Tiff 2 are now back at the homefront and readily tackling the calculations which they are hella excited as Raver Tiff said that they were previously on the verge of tears.

However, this in what should be their times of excitement comes to a brief rough patch once Raver Tiff discloses that she ended up not graduating from the prestigious MIT. Mini Tiff goes off on her for not completing her degree but Raver Tiff says she just has no idea what MIT is REALLY like, plus she is like 12 years old so who TF does she think she is to get all crunk with her about that? Not everything is all sunshine and rainbows anyway. So yeah, this part actually does frustrate me that mini Tiff thinks she knows everything and is being hella judgemental on a lot of Raver Tiff's life.

To get more into it, she says that her idea of getting point A to point B doesn't exactly correllate to how MIT wanted to condition her o

to so she wanted to pave her own way in where she can call her own shots. In fact, she is in the process of founding a start-up that follows in those steps. That seems to shut  mini Tiff up for the time being.

The rest of the paper girls come back from their outing and each and every one of them are stand offish and short when replying. Of course in their own way. KJ is timid, Erin is in her anger stage and Mac is just wanting to smoke.

KJ meets Mac outside during her smoke and apologizes for punching her. She then shyly reveals to her that she saw her older self and it seems that she has come to terms with what her future self will develop and is trying to get those words out but she keeps tripping over her words. Right when she was about to say she will later turn homosexual, Mac interrupts her.

Which this part actually annoyed me that Mac that that power away from her. KJ was finally able to confide in someone and Mac took that away to make it about herself and didn't even interact with her story...

I digress though.

Mac just interrupts KJ and say "You know what happens to me? I DIE OF CANCER!" Then goes to say how her future death changed the course of his family, mainly her big brother, Dylan.

KJ being the ever so graceful person just looks at Mac with sympathy and sorrow and gives Mac and warm hug. Mac requests her to not tell the others because she doesn't want them to look at her the way KJ was looking at her now and runs off.

Tiff 1 and Tiff 2 eventually are able to piece the rest of the calculations together good news? Another folding is happening. Bad news? It's not for another 7 years.

Erin overhears this and nearly has a panic attack and tells them to double check it because there is just no possible way she has to wait that long for the next folding. She storms off when Mini Tiff says they are confident in their calculations.

Back at the farm while 1999 Larry is doing his regular farm...stuff a newspaper flys over to him so he follows where the devil it came from. Uhhhh well. It's that purple blob, a tell tale sign of a folding. However this time it is spitting up shit from 1988! How do I know? Well the newspaper is from 1st episode: November 1, 1988.

Episode 7 is next.
