Paper Girls S1E5

Previously on Paper Girls

Episode 5 "A New Period"

The robot with paper girls and everyone else inside manage to make it to the other side successfully. They land in a junkyard by the waters. Larry hurrys everyone out since the robot thing Adult Erin landed roughly but the point is: they're alive and they escaped the Old Watch. That's all that really matters.

Larry looks around as if something is amiss all while Tiffany runs up to him and explains that since they have finally made it back to their correct timeline in 1988, that if her calculations are correct, they still have time to rendevouz with Heck and Naldo to prevent their fates but they have to be on the double. An increasingly panicked Larry snaps at her clearly not giving a fuck. Adult Erin senses his agitation and approaches them 2 and asks what is going on and why he is like...dying inside and outside too.

Before he can answer, there is something looking over their shoulder.

As it turns out, Old Watch ain't no fucking joke when they said they would track your ass down the second you mess with time itself. Looks like they sent in a robot of their own through the folding as well. And it just landed. All Larry can mutter out of his mouth is "It's too late. I'm so sorry. Run!"

Erin leads the other paper girls and they all take shelter in a nearby trailer. Larry stays behind to try his best to deter them. And by that I mean he takes out his handgun like a movie cliche and shoots at this hundred foot tall robot. Literally didn't do and it instantly vaporized him in a blip.

Tiffany tells out in horror while the others just stare in horror.

The robot then deploys a scanner to detect any human life. Specifically them but for some motherfucking reason this robot doesn't think to scan the trailers so they all evade detection and it just roams around the junkyard.

Adult Erin immediately comes to terms what she must do. She goes to little Erin and tells her to stay strong and stay far as away as possible as she does what Larry wasn't able to do. Little Erin pleads for her to stay with them and that they can all survive together. She leaves anyway.

Erin climbs back in the broken ass robot and manages to activate it and proceeds to get in a very sci-fi cool looking robot fight. Omg it's like watching a fight in slow motion but it's cool looking though. Erin does manage to get some good damage. To everyone's horror this is a FUTURE ROBOT so this robot has advanced technology to immediately repair the damage on the spot and then proceeds to send a shock blast to Erin and sends her flying.

Take her a while but she eventually gets up before future robot gets to her. She takes a robot and stabs right through to the core. In the midst of this, she gets stuck and the worst of the worst happens. Erin's piloted robot enters critical failiure and future robot's power increases at an insane speed.

As everything has gone to shit and she is rendered immobile, she makes the diffiult decision to press the self destruct button as a last ditch effort to destroy the robot even if that means she dies too.

The paper girls look in horror as both erupt in flames. Erin takes it especially hard while KJ consoles her the best she can.

Not too long after the demise, Old Watch soldiers swiftly enter the junkyard patrolling the area. They even have these micro robots also patrolling the area. Tiff realizes that Larry's backpack is still out there so she risks her life by retrieving in which she totally does because plot points.

This is when the paper girls see Grandfather for the first time (the disappointment dude). He strolls around clearly unhappy about this mess. Him and Prioress who is clearly his henchlady get into a bit of a spat. She reports about the misuse of time via STF Underground and the dead travelers (Heck and Naldo) which appeases Grandfather but she retorts that it will only happen again and again. They both have a different way of wanting to handle but he seems more lowkey and this pisses her off to no end. And there's nothing she can do about it but just grin and bear it.

The entire junkyard is ordered for ablution (fancy word for memory wipe) and he storms off as the soldiers evacuate the area. Tiffany manages to get back. She overheard the entire conversation and relays it to the group.

"It's when they wipe your memories beam you up and place you somewhere else like nothing happened and you forget all those events completely. Yo, that's literally the plot to Dark City! Sort of. The girls sit in fear while ablution commences and everyone close their eyes and brace themselves.

They are now walking down the bridge and realize uhhhhh that didn't work? They still have all their memories and they're still in the same correct timeline. KJ snaps and says she is done caring about Old Watch, STF Underground, Time War and all that shit. She pulls the Cartman "Screw ya guys, I'm going home!." card.

Tiffany yells at them and says that there is no more "normal" anymore and since she still has the book from Larry that has all the info they need to track down all the time foldings. They still need to do their part in the Time War. Or else, the current versions of themselves will suffer the exact same cycle.

Yeah, no one cares.

While Kj and Tiff argue, Erin notices a 4th of July sign which is peculiar because their original date they time travelled was the morning after Halloween so...what the fuck?

One of them grabs a nearby newspaper and to their horror, the date is July 3rd, 1999. Larry that son of a motherless goat lied to them because that was the year HE wanted to get to after all. KJ yelled and he would have said anything to get Adult Erin in that robot and he obviously did the same to them thinking they were going to go back to 1988. but Nah. Erin died for nothing.

This is when Tiffany gets that look as if she was told for the first time there was no Santa Claus. All of her trust, respect and faith in Larry has officially died. Pun intended.

Mac goes to check up on little Erin in which she confides in her that of all fucking times (lolz) that this is moment that she has officially started her period. She asks Mac to jack some menstral supplies from a convenient station.

After their goofy plan works, all the girls gather in a circle and inspect the oddity of seeing tampons for the first time. During this very humorous group discussion and clearly innocently ignorant banter, they all come to the conclusion that literally none of them have experienced their period before. Erin is just so stressed that she chooses to quit. Lol no. She in fact cannot quit her period. Mac ragequits the discussion and goes back to steal some menstral pads instead. She calls them diapers ha. Omg I just love this scene so much,

Once the tomfoolery is officially over, they decide to go to KJ's house because she says around this time every year her family vacay's elsewhere, thus, house will be empty. Now that's a plan.

They reach KJ's house they realize uhhhhhh it's the complete opposite of empty. In fact, there's a party going on. After a brief struggle they all end up going on it to grab some free grub while they can and just fucking relax for a bit.

Mac and KJ together see College KJ. Both are like WHAAAAAT! Another amusing scene. Mac with her humorous comments and KJ looking in horror that future her is chatting with a guy she hates along with exhibiting awkward body mannerisms until she can't take it anymore and leaves the room.

Oh gosh, Mambo No. 5 is currently playing at the party. That totally takes me back. I remember that this was a real slapper back when it first came out. Literally couldn't go anywhere in public without not hearing that song.

Mac and Erin had enough of watching drunk old people so they decide to check elsewhere in the house. They both go in the coat room where they admire at all the richy things they have there. They both share their sentiments that they never had that privileged life as they come from a lower income family and could never afford that luxury.

This was where Mac explains where she was in her absence just a few episodes ago when she found her older Doctor Brother. Observing that despite the shitty upbringing they had, he lived such a successful life. Erin expresses sympathy that she wasn't able to stay. Mac tries to be tough and put up a front that she wouldn't have fit in there anyway. They do more chatting and playing around with each other and try on other guests coats.

Meanwhile KJ and Tiff are in another quiet room also away from the party. Tiff is writing in her book while KJ decides to explore the rest of the house. She goes upstairs and being the only child, she is welcomed to seeing a family portrait with the 3 of them smiling back at her. Going further down the hallway she sees all the picturess of memories she has yet to have as prom and graduation.

She enters her old/future room where she is met with a stranger lady at the desk with her laptop open. She opens a friendly dialogue and introduces herself as Lauren, a chick that goes to school with her. To her shock, she learns that College KJ goes to film school rather than business school like her mother would have initially wanted. Super friendly Lauren then invites her to check out 2001: A Space Odyssey with the both of them tomorrow. So yeah totally cool.

KJ sees herself out but along the way she sees College KJ coming up the stairs so she backtracks and decks out in the bathroom. With a quick peak at their interaction it quickly escalates from checking in on each other to them giving each other a passionate kiss which completely takes her aback. She doesn't know how to process this so she quickly gathers the rest of the paper girls and leaves the house.

She keeps this to herself but she is frustrated. Tispy Erin says loopy stuff which only angers her even more and she quickly snaps when Erin calls her an asshole which escalates even further when she punches Mac for trying to defend Erin. Great now everyone in mad at her. Tiffany also snaps and calls them helpless children and runs off.

Tiff finds a payphone without communicating with anyone so your guess is as good as mine as to who exactly she is trying to get a hold of. There's no answer so she leaves a message.

She is calling her adult self!!! She leaves a message but holy fuck Adult Tiff picks up before she can end her message! Aaaahhhh!!!!

Episode 6 is next. Dos mas episodes brossssssss!
