Episode 6 "A Woman Diablero / Una Mujer Diablera"
A preggo nun walks in a church and tells the father that which is the...father lolz. Not only does he not want anything to do with his child, he commands her to leave the convent FOREVEHHHH. She says she will do nun of that and she will expose this fool for impregnating her. In anger, he bashes her head in.
Over at the compound with Mama Chebala (who I THINK is that pregnant nun but Father called her Isabella so that totally could be her) is telling the timid Wences that she is not a bad person. She is literally saying this as Mariana and the other kids are begging to be let out. Mama Chebala is alluding to some ritual or something that is due really soon and walks away. Wences is still at the table while the kids are pleading for his help and he does have a lot of sorrow on his face as if he is maybe second guessing his role so idk..he gets distracted and accidentally cuts his thumb.
Nancy winces from her bed at the same time with a cut on her thumb the same placement as Wences. Plot twiiiiisssstt.
Now Father Ramiro is still at that building thingy where the other dude (Cardinal Morelo I finally figured his name!) showed him Lucia who looks so out of it. He tries to talk to her but she slumps over in her chair which he panics but Morelo sits her back upright. All he can say to him is that there is so much that he doesn't know. No shit, Sherlock.
He takes Ramiro into another room so they can have a chat. He tells him that him and the group he is associated with have found a way to cheat death. In fact, them knowing each other was not by chance. It was by design. They helped him find his way and protected him. Whatever that means. Ramiro is chosen. So now they must repay him because his daughter, Mariana is the key to all of this.
Mariana is trying desperately to use whatever she can to break down the door but one of the boys lashes out at her. He keeps saying this is all her fault because she ran away. Well nothing she can say with change his mind so he stomps off. The newbie kid isn't mad because well he is the newbie around here. He firmly believes that his mom (😭😭😭) will save them because they were in a similar predictable him a priest and a few others helped them. Mariana is like WUT? Little does she know...
Morelo lays it down that these powerful beings are due to arrive and he must tell him all he knows about "those diableros" and attempts to smear them saying they are too incompetent to save Mariana. This is a start of a new era afterall.
Panning over to Elvis and Keta where she leads him to the room where she claimed she was held hostage and tortured. Holy fuck though, the room is hella empty. Elvis is a prick and wants to find the diableras Benito revealed to him but Keta firmly puts her foot down and wants to tag along, thinking this is key to finding Mayaken. He tricks her and just drives off without her. Bruh.
Ramiro snaps at Cardinal Morelo because he is putting down Elvis saying he shouldn't trust him and he replies back that Morelo was the one who hid Lucia's pregnancy from him and persuaded her to leave him without explanation. He big mad. So he doesn't want to help. Morelo doesn't prevent him from leaving if he wants to but he ominously says that he will have to pick a side sooner or later.
At the compound, Mariana tosses a ball out a small pipe which alerts Wences and as he fetches it, Mariana tries to see if she can sweetly get some info out of him. All that he says that that they (the kids) will bring goodness to the world but refuses to answer when she asks if they will be hurt in the process. As he gives the ball back, she sees the palm of his hand and recognizes it as the man who killed his mom (because of the glowing mark that branded Lucia) and she freaks the fuck out. Wences sobs and keeps saying no as he is walking away. She doesn't know he was possessed so that's pretty sad.
Meanwhile, Nancy sits down at a church and is surprised when she is all of a sudden able to feel tears running down her face.
Meanwhile, Elvis arrives to an eerie building an helps himself inside which is a library I think? It's completely dark so he has to use his flashlight. Peering around the corner he comes face to face with...something no bueno.
Keta on the otherhand arrives to El Indio's oops I'm sorry I forgot he doesn't like being called that, I mean Isaac's stomping grounds. She walks in a room to a grumpy Thalia as her and her sister Pauline are cleaning up the bloodbath left in the wake of Isaac's unrelenting quest to get to the bottom of who stole the demon responsible to abducting Mariana. Long sentence, I know. Pauline is more helpful to Keta to help track Elvis down.
Nancy is at Ramiro's place because she doesn't want to be alone. To Ramiro's surprise sees her but listens to her when she reveals the weird shit that is happening to her when she woke up. She is able to taste things that she hasn't eating and able to feel emotions and shit. Ramiro suggests to go to the satanic bizarre to help her get rid of whatever she is experiencing. She's up for it!
Back to Elvis, he is traversing through the eerie as fuck building accompanied with sinister laughing but this does not deter him. The apparently communicate with him through materializing messages and images in the walls. PEW! He gets hit with a dart and curses at them as he falls to the ground.
The next scene is when Ramiro takes Nancy to that demon appraiser back in the 1st episode. Fricken cool, dude. They figured as much that they need this connection Nancy has to find Mariana so she asks if there is a way to make the connection stronger. Stronger, you say?? Well...
In no time, Keta catches up to Elvis via tracking his cell phone GPS and approaches the same building he entered just moments before. This time though, there are lights on and classical music playing. Perhaps that is a super good thing as they may take a more fond to Keta. Let's hope. As she walks up the stairs, Elvis comes to but he is chained to a bed and sees a lovely lady at his bedside.
Keta walks in the kitchen meets a hauntingly friendly older woman and they have a friendly chat. It also appears that the woman Elvis is talking to is the same woman but in more spooky conditions. It's clear who they like more.
While it is unclear at this point if these 2 conversation are taking place simulataneously at this point but it is rather confusing watching in in the episode, not gonna lie.
Nantli is her name. She knows exactly who Keta is looking for. Yeah, she is a diablera alright and her group saved her ass and were the ones responsible for teaching the arts of the diableras and her name: Mama Chebala. Nantli proceeds to inform Keta that she is intending to perform a ritual rarely anyone has dared to do in order to vanquish evil. Like forever. In doing so will release a god into this world.
The just will rejoice while the impure will die
Holy fuck, at this point it seems like a super creepy crossover with Hellbound (another great show I recommend you watch)
Anyway, in doing so will have the world do a kind of reset. Which is why this ritual is referred as a new dawn.
Over at Song's shop, he commands Nancy to induce great pain to herself so she can build that strong connection. She punches against a wall and gets a glimpse of Wences who receives her pain as well at the same time. She empathizes immediately and says that Wences is not an evil dude, he is blameless in all of this. She quickly loses connection. Frustrated she punches even harder. She gets even more insight of what's going on in his head. He's torn. He really wants to help those children.
He decides to grab the keys but that is when Mama Chebala walks in and deflects the situation. That sucks.
After losing the connection a second time, Song informs Nancy that if she really does want that strong connection, she will have to resort to go through literal torture.
Things get more horror filled as Nantli is talking to Keta in a very brainwashy way and getting into her head and insecurities by saying her family don't think she is shit and all men do is let her down. She was supposed to be with them diableras but Benito led her astray and made her fear her own potential. But she won't. A literal plea for Keta to join them.
A darker version of Nantli is spookifying Elvis taunting him about his mother. Oh boy.
Back at the shop, Nancy begs Ramiro to touch her (the electric shocky thingy) and with hesitation he does anyway. The electricity is intense. So intense it sends Wences seizing to the ground while they were at the market. As soon as he stands up, he sees Nancy as his own reflection!!!!!!!
As things are getting disturbingly up a notch, Elvis decides to recite an incantation 'ol Benito taught him once upon a time. He successfully managed to do a tongue switcheroo. He was able to jack the voicebox of Nantli in the kitchen with Keta. Through Nantli, Elvis implores Keta for help and that he is so so sorry for fucking up and lying to her about Mayaken and El Indio, EVERYTHING but she must find a way to escape because she is walking into a trap and will kill him. And she has to act NOW.
The voices are restored and Nantli is pissed the fuck off.
Keta snaps out of it and rushes out of the room and just so happens to know where Elvis is tied to in (???) doppelganger Nantli begs her not to and was about to stab Elvis but she gives the old lady a sucker punch and frees Elvis and holy fuck they are gone from her clenches just like that! While they were in the car, Keta slaps him. Heh, that what he gets for ditching her. Fair enough. Elvis then gets a call from Ramiro so he tell them to hang tight at Song's to meet up with them.
Mama's Chebala's compound with her and her son out and about in comes El Indio!! He breaks in the compound (I assume he knew this info from his lovely inquisition techniques). He finds a room where there are articles on child sacrifice. WTF. Unbeknownst to him, Mama Chebala (or a doppleganger since Nantli can do that too??) is about to do an incantation and now he is being swallowed up by light. Just fucking great.
It is around night time now and whilst driving past a particular store, Nancy seems to recognize it as one Wences was at just earlier in the day. Keta also received the location Isaac sent her so now the group has Mama Chebala's location as well. Yowzas.
They are en route to there as we speak. Mama Chebala is set to do the ritual tonight in which will turn the kids into a god?? What? It will be the return of Tezcatlipoca and he is not the nice god we are meant to believe according to Elvis. Time is not exactly on their side here.
They reach the compound at long last and even run the fence down. They are too late. Wences is tied up.
Mama Chebala is one step ahead of them and have all 4 of the kids tied up in the back of her truck. She tells them Happy Birthday for it will be their last.
