I honestly don't know what they were expecting because it's literally just darkness in the damn hole anyway. Dong Rim's livestream is uneventful as expected but it abruptly shuts off. The guy friend that is holding on the caution tape all of a sudden feels a burst of tension as if someone down there snagged it like a fish on the hook and the tape ends up snapping. And it's somehow Dong Rim's fault? Eh, teenagers. The girls want to force her to go in the hole and retrieve her phone. The 2 guys turn their backs while the girls continue to bully her into submission. Dong Rim ends up backhanding one of the girls! Holy shit.
The black smoke makes its way into one of the girls in which they inhale it unknowingly and just as abruptly, she starts attacking one of her friends to the utter shock of everyone there. Even the guys aren't doing shit. She ends up choking the other friend to death and goes to chase the guys. Meanwhile, the black smoke gets inhaled by another girl who who starts to relive her trauma surrounding her mother then proceeds to walk towards the hole. AND SHE YEETS HERSELF IN IT!!!!!!!!!
Dong Rim sees the black smoke coming for her so she takes off running in the forest.
Jin Seok and his unnamed friend hop on the bike to safety. Except, Jin Seok being such an asshole purposely left him behind to save himself.
Back at the hospital where the crazed man is handcuffed, is shown to be waking up in the hospital bed.
Meanwhile, Tae Han and Hwa Sun arrive to the tunnel where the Lee Soo Hyun was last caught on CCTV only entering but not exiting. Once entered, Hwa Sun starts to see weird shit. Tae Han is right behind her when she starts to get the black eyes again and she is haunted by reliving the events of her husband's murder.
She is crying as she is continuing to hallucinate and talking to her dead husband who also says to NOT go in the tunnel!!!!! Completely unaware to her surroundings, a car comes hurling towards her and Tae Han saves her ass a SECOND time now. While they are standing in the tunnel, all the lights mysteriously turn off. It's not just the tunnel, it's all across the city. What the devil is causing this sudden blackout? Sun spots be actin' a fool. They GTFO.
Now that they are outside the tunnel in the faint moonlight, Tae takes this opportunity to bring it up again about his friend, Young Shik, who also was infected with the black eyes. He asks if Hwa Sun maybe ate something in the mountain or whatever to account for her her hallucinations and black eyes. Hwa Sun finally confesses that she saw her dead husband which strikes a memory in Tae Han as he remembered Young Shik was saying something about seeing his dead dad during his haze.
Well, damn things are starting to come together. So Tae Han thinks it's a good idea if they head to the hospital now.
There is a construction crew that was intending to fill that stupid hole but there is a malfunction with the equipment. Holy shit, so it was not the sun's fault for the blackout, it was actually this goofy ass construction worker who fucked with the wires and put the whole city into a blackout. Thanks, bruh.
A group of 2 elderly men are saying OMG IT'S THE SUN IT EXPLODE OH NOOES. They then Dong Rim walking like a zombie through the dark streets. It's unknown at this point if she is under the influence of the black smoke or not.
Well, Sgt. Park and a group of construction workers are all in a scuffle but it gets interrupted when they spot a creepy hole emanating the black smoke. One of the guys inches closer to it when it pops out the killer school girl from earlier who attacks him. The black smoke immediately takes other people under possession which sparks people attacking each other. Shit getting cray cray.
The hospital is still alive and kicking. They have some power, probably regenerators or something. Two doctors are late to the party and have no idea what has happened, how could they, anyway? The man on the table (from last episode) gets infected and attacks one of the doctors. Like, gouges his eyes out. Terrible way to die.
A young girl, Do Yoon (from the 1st episode) is home alone during the blackout, she's texting her mother when she will be home. They also video chat telling her due to all the ruckas, she will be home late. However, while on call, there is a knock at the door but it's a lady infected with the black smoke and she ends up breaking down the door causing Do Yoon to drop her phone while she runs for her life. Her mother can only look helplessly in horror.
Hwa Sun and Tae Han get to the hospital where all hell is breaking lose with people running in all directions. Hwa Sun recognizes one of black eyed men so she gets out of the safety of the truck and makes a bee line towards him. It's all in vain because this dude is not in the right frame of mind. In fact, all he has in his mind is eye gouging 24/7 now.
The guy be attacking everybody. He eventually attacks Do Yoon's mother and Hwa Sun had no choice but to shoot the poor guy. Upon closer inspection, he appears to be bleeding BLACK blood!.
The mother pleads for her help and rescue her little baby!!!!
Hwa Sun agrees and while she goes to get the car, Tae Han decides to go look for Young Shik and they part ways. Before he leaves, he hands her a walkie talkie to keep in touch.
Tae Han alone again gets stopped by Doctor J and asks what in the actual fuck is going on here. All he can say is to make sure the black smoke doesn't infiltrate the hospital.
Sgt Park makes his way out of the carnage from the construction crew and into the police station where he locks himself in. The younger officer, Hyun Ho, from earlier is there and is like WHAAAATT. Another police officer some running up that he lets in. No one has cell service so he says to use the police radio to signal for help. Holy shit there's monsters piling up outside but holy fuck the dude they just let it? He's one of them now and they are forced to shoot him. Him and Hyun Ho are forced to continue barricading the police station.
With the streets too crazy right now it is not quite efficient to drive in that condition so Hwa Sun says it's best to go on foot so they just abandon ship and run towards her house. They get to the house but is Do Yoon-less. She's actually outside where the monster lady spotted her so she yelled and took off running. Her mom heard her and ran outside. Just follow the screams, m'lady.
Meanwhile Tae Han arrives at this eerily quiet and run down building. Why? I don't know but good thing he did because that is where he found black eyed Young Shik where he comes strolling out with an ax talking to Tae Han as if he were his abusive father and takes a swing at him. This ensues a scuffle between the two and very rough one at that. He tries to refrain from hurting his friend while also trying not to get bloody murdered.
Do Yoon finally reunites with her mom and in pops out the mutant lady who keeps calling her Young Min, her daughter. Hwa Sun comes in for the clutch with the car and tells them to get in! Do Yoon is first to get in and right when her mother is about to she gets stabbed and attacked by the same lady. Hwa Sun is NOT able to get out to help due to the narrow opening for her door. The mother says for the safety of her child to please drive away and promise to look after Do Yoon. In a tearful mourn, Hwa Sun drives off to a very emotional Do Yoon who cries for her mother.
In an emotional and erratic drive through the turmultuous city, Hwa Sun flips her car over. They are both okay but now have to go on foot. She immediately gets attacked by a mutant but she is able to handle her own and slaughters the fool by smashing his head with the trunk lid.
However, when she turns back, Do Yoon is nowhere to be found.
There is an announcement over an intercom telling the survivors to take refuge in Muji high school.
Tae Han rises up from his scuffle after being bitten by Young Shik he finds his friend with a head injury after falling back unto a ledge. He feels such sorrow now that he was unable to save his good friend.
