Erased S1E1
Episode One
Meet Satoru who is a manga artist but his editor doesn't think his current work is lit so he goes sulking in a random tunnel. Moping around like one does.
While doing a delivery run as a pizza driver, he goes through this freak time warp in the middle of the street. He notices he's going through this exact same scenery again. His inner thoughts automatically assumes that something is seriously wrong and he must right but what? So upon going through this time warp backwards in time, he frantically searches for something out of place.
Bingo.
He spots a driver asleep at the wheel on the other side of the road and a kid eagerly waiting for his pedestrian signal to trigger. Satoru immediately turns around and tries with all his might to drive up to this driver proceeding to bang on his window to wake him up. Uhh good news? Right before they about to run a red light Satori's honk alerts the little boy just in time so he runs back to safety. Bad news? Le crash. Mah boi gets tossed like a rag doll and he lands in the hospital.
His coworker, Katagiri, visits him saying he's actually been there for 2 days (🤯) and it turns out that the truck driver actually died of a heart attack which was why Satoru wasn't able to wake up him up. But he totally did not know that! How could he?
So he gets discharged from the hospital to continue with his inner monologue. So this weird time warp he calls it a "revival" which he is all too familiar with. He feels like there is unexplainable force that sends him back in time to make original shitty events a little less shitty. Every now and then when there's a witness, in this case Katagiri, he gets hailed as a knight in shining armor which he seems to not want to embrace.
He heads home where it's just his mother and himself. She's drinking her life away while watching TV when there was something on the news that made her bring up a similar incident when he was a kid. She asks if she remembers about this one girl who disappeared a few years back. This triggers a trip down memory lane im Sotoru. A classmate of his who was a very quiet and standoffish that was murdered and a local man named Yuuki is currently in prison for the murders.
The next day while Sotoru and his mom are out shopping, Katagiri gleefully spots them and only then he gets a spontaneous revival. He's confused why he is getting this useless revival to prevent Katagiri from tripping on herself. However he tells this goofy ass to not run so crisis averted. What Sotoru doesn't realize since his attention is his mother. Now that her attention is no longer on trippy girl, she notices a man walking away with a young girl in tow and she gets the heebie jeebies. The second this creepy man notices her glaring, he lets go of her hand and keeps walking to his car and drives off.
Katagiri gets invited over for dinner that night which is a lovely dinner but after she left the mother reveals she saw an attempted kidnapping. Sotoru is like WHAT?! She plays it off as to not worry him further. Unfortunately, as it turns out, this guy finds out where they lived and murders her with a stab in the back.
Sotoru comes home the following night and finds his mother in a pool of blood. Unable to resuscitate her he scrambles out the door. A nearby neighbor sees his arm covered in blood and freaks the fuck out presumably calling the police. So he takes off running thinking he's so fucked assuming he's totally getting framed for the murder. He runs into an alley where cops corner him. The closer they are getting he's thinking... "So can I get a fucking revival now? Now? How about now?"
Well he gets one alright. So far back, he's returned to elementary school. Yippee.
